Homosexuality | Jim Abrams AP www.onenewsnow.com WASHINGTON - Congress has given in to pressure from gay activists and the White House and voted to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" ban on gays and lesbians serving openly in the military. In quick succession Thursday, the Senate Armed Services Committee and the full House (see Roll Call vote) approved measures to repeal the 1993 law that allows homosexuals to serve in the armed services only if they hide their sexual orientation. |

100 clerical sex abuse cases reported in Italy |

One World Religion | AKI sify.com There have been at least 100 cases of clerical sex abuse reported in Italy in the past 10 years, a top ranking church official has said. Mariano Crociata, the second-highest ranked official in the Italian bishops conference, however, declined to say how many of the cases resulted in any action against the priests who were investigated. |

Ghinedu Ehiem, a Nigerian who sang in a choir that performs at St. Peter’s Basilica, was dismissed after the center-left daily newspaper La Repubblica reported Wednesday that he had procured men, including seminarians, for Angelo Balducci, a former member of the board of Italy’s public works department who was arrested and jailed last month on corruption charges. |

Earthquakes | CNN www.CNN.com (CNN) -- A strong earthquake with magnitude 6.5 struck Friday night in the ocean southwest of Sumatra in Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The quake, which occurred shortly after 11 p.m., was centered about 100 miles (165 kilometers) west of Bengkulu in Sumatra, and 215 miles (345 kilometers) south of Padang, Sumatra, the USGS said. |
