Just finished our local Origins in the Schools project.
Alternate Ending Video here:
5 of us armed with 400 books hit the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon, SK, Canada, and distributed all 400 books in approximately 40 minutes.
People were very happy to get the books. Comments were positive such as, "Oh Great!", "I was looking for a copy of this book", "for free?.. man thanks!", "Oh I love Darwin", "Sure I'll take one... at least your not handing out bibles".
The last one was a funny thing to say. I replied under my breath as he walked away, "Well... it is to some"........ ha!
Another lady asked one of the group, "With what viewpoint?". To which he replied, "Read it and see", but she was adamant, so he replied, "Christian", to which she said, "Oh good!" And then took a copy. So at least there was one Christian on the campus.
Although there were quite a few people who did not want a copy of the free Origins. My hope is that they were Christian, and thought we ourselves were heathens promoting Darwin... ha... oh well.... If they only knew.
People also kept asking what organization we were with.... they couldn't understand that it was just a group of 5 friends who were giving things away for free out of the goodness of their hearts.... HA!... I call it 'blessing heathens with our generosity', although I'd never tell them that. The one girl said to me, "There must be something behind this. How can you guys just be giving them away?"
Matthew 10:16 comes to mind, "wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
Honestly I cannot imagine a more enjoyable way to start a Monday morning. We plunked down in the major arteries of the campus and just blessed heathens with our generosity as I said before. It almost seemed like we were spies on a top secret mission, and our victims were unsuspecting and falling completely into our hands. Ray Comfort is a genius. What a great way to get the word out.... What a great way to undermine the worlds of the devil.
It is humourous to know that the "Saskatoon Free Thinkers" (a proactive atheist group responsible for atheist bus ads and the like) were advising their members to watch out for this "Origins" project in case it came to the University of Saskatchewan. Ha! Too late guys.... too late. I guess atheists sleep in. ;)
My only regret in the whole thing was that I wish we had more books. If only more were available. The University has thousands of people who would have been more than happy to have received the free books.
Out of all the evangelistic efforts we've done before, this was by far the easiest. Anyone could do what we did this morning, and all-in-all there wasn't anyone who really was offended by our efforts. There were many smiles and 400 thankyous.
I hope and pray that God will use those books. May they tenderize the hearts of the readers, and may it all be for His Glory.
Serving the King,
Jer
